17th February

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Philippians 1:3-6

As we got deeper into lockdown, it became harder to maintain relationships. We couldn’t have our normal 1-1’s over coffee, Friday night dinners or playdates. It felt, and still feels hard as we sit staring at our computer screens trying to connect with others.

But Paul’s trust that God will guide the Philippians and protect them even when he is in prison at a distance, should encourage us to do the same. When he couldn’t be with them, he still prayed with joy to the God who he knew was invested in their ministry.

We can be confident that whilst we are unable to go out and meet people in person, whilst we are not able to grow relationships in the same way over a Sunday lunch after church, we can trust that the one who began the good work, will carry it on to completion until the day Jesus returns.

Father, thank you that we can trust you. Please help us all to pray joyfully during this time of hardship, being confident that you will continue growing your kingdom until the day of Christ Jesus. Amen.
